Spring Festival “Qymyzfest” Celebrated in Waldbrunn in Accordance with Kazakh Traditions

Waldbrunn-Mülben, June 1, 2025 – The Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Frankfurt am Main participated in the organization of the large-scale spring festival “Qymyzfest”, held at the farm of Zollmann Stutenmilch GmbH in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The event brought together around 1,000 participants, including members of the Kazakh diaspora, repatriates, local residents, and German friends of Kazakhstan.

The festival was dedicated to International Children’s Day and symbolized the spirit of spring renewal, reflecting the essence of the Kazakh holiday Nauryz. It served as an important platform for promoting the traditions of the Kazakh people, their nomadic lifestyle, and the country’s unique cultural heritage. Special emphasis was placed on the preservation and popularization of Kazakh traditions among a broad international audience.

The event was held in an atmosphere of traditional Kazakh hospitality and national flavor. Guests were treated to Kazakh and local cuisine, as well as traditional sweets, including pancakes made with mare's milk. Attendees also had the opportunity to taste qymyz – the famous Kazakh fermented mare’s milk drink. The program featured a demonstration of mare milking, horseback and pony rides, as well as a diverse entertainment lineup.

In his welcome speech, the Consul General of Kazakhstan, Tauboldy Umbetbayev, emphasized the importance of such cultural events in fostering intercultural dialogue, preserving the unique identity of Kazakh culture, and strengthening the unity of the Kazakh diaspora abroad. He noted that events like Qymyzfest not only enhance understanding of Kazakh traditions but also contribute to stronger cultural and friendly ties between Kazakhstan and Germany.Held annually in collaboration with the Zollmann family, “Qymyzfest” has become a significant milestone in strengthening cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Germany and represents a meaningful contribution to the international promotion of the national heritage.

Zollmann Stutenmilch GmbH is a well-known family-run enterprise located in the Odenwald region of Germany, specializing in the production and processing of mare’s milk. The company was founded in 1959 by German physician Dr. Rudolf Storch, who was inspired by the traditions of Kazakhstan’s nomadic peoples, who have long used mare’s milk for its healing properties. He sought to bring this practice to Europe.
