Kazakhstan and the Universal Postal Union Discussed the Prospects for Expanding Cooperation

Bern, June 2, 2025 – During a meeting with Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the Universal Postal Union, Kairat Torebayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO and International Economic Organizations reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the goals of the UPU and expressed interest in expanding cooperation.

Kazakhstan is actively modernizing its national postal system, placing special emphasis on digitalization, logistics development and integration with e-commerce. In this context, the Kazakh side expressed readiness to participate in UPU pilot projects and technical initiatives, particularly in the areas of sustainable development and digital services.

The meeting gave special attention to Kazakhstan’s initiative to host an international forum under the auspices of the UPU in Astana. The proposed forum could serve as a regional platform for discussions on digital transformation, sustainable logistics solutions, regional connectivity and e-commerce integration.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan expressed interest in cooperating with the UPU on the establishment of a regional postal logistics center within its territory.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both Sides agreed to continue dialogue at the technical level to elaborate on the proposed initiatives, aimed at strengthening regional postal infrastructure and supporting the sustainable development of the sector in Central Asia.
