Unity in Diversity – Kazakhstan and Malaysia Strengthens Cooperation on Intercultural Harmony

Kuala Lumpur, May 27, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Malaysia Bulat Sugurbaev met with Malaysia’s Minister of National Unity, YB Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang.

The in-depth discussion focused on shared experiences as well as evolving approaches and trends in promoting national unity and fostering interethnic and interfaith harmony of both countries. The discussion emphasized the common mechanisms each country has put in place to uphold national unity: The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, a unique institution uniting representatives of all ethnic groups in the country, plays a significant role in promoting peace and harmony. Additionally, Kazakhstan’s international initiative to hold regular Congresses of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana, a platform promoting interfaith dialogue at the international level, was also discussed. In Malaysia, its efforts to build national unity are guided by three core principles: Understanding, Respect, and Acceptance.

Both parties agree that the multiethnic and multireligious diverse demographic makeup of Kazakhstan and Malaysia makes the exchange of best practices in promoting unity and societal harmony particularly relevant, and reaffirm the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the area.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to explore new avenues of collaboration in advancing unity, peace and development in both nations.
