Commemoration of a Hero Held in Slovenia

Sežana, May 14, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Slovenia Daniyar Sarekenov, together with the mayor of Sežana and representatives of the municipality, took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of the Kazakh hero Kasse Sebero (Kasym Zhakupov).

The Kazakh soldier, a native of the North Kazakhstan region, who fought as part of a partisan detachment in Yugoslavia during World War II, was mortally wounded in battle in November 1943 and buried near the village of Povir.

The memorial event was also attended by local residents, who united to honor the courage and self-sacrifice of the soldier who gave his life for the freedom of Slovenia. With a minute of silence, the participants of the ceremony expressed deep gratitude to the feat of the soldier, whose name became a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Slovenia.

This solemn act of remembrance not only strengthens the historical ties between the two countries, but also reminds us of the enduring value of freedom, preserved thanks to the heroism of those who fought for a peaceful future.

At the end of the ceremony, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan expressed words of gratitude to the Slovenian side for their careful attitude to history and assistance in perpetuating the memory of the heroes who contributed to the victory over fascism.
