80th Anniversary of the Great Victory Commemorated in the Capital of Austria

Vienna, May 9, 2025 – To mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held in central Vienna at the monument to Soviet soldiers who fell during the liberation of Austria from fascism.

The event was attended by Ambassadors of Central Asian countries and heads of diplomatic missions of Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. The joint ceremony served as a sign of deep respect for the fallen and recognition of the shared historical legacy uniting the nations of the region.

The ceremony was marked by a minute of silence and performances of military and memorial compositions. Participants honored the memory of the heroes — including thousands of Kazakhstani soldiers who fought on the frontlines, and home-front workers whose dedicated labor brought Victory closer. Their courage, resilience, and love for the Motherland will remain forever in the memory of generations.

Later that evening, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Austria took part in a celebratory concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory. As part of the cultural program, Kazakh opera singer Aigul Shamshidenova performed “Alya”, a piece dedicated to Hero of the Soviet Union Aliya Moldagulova – a sniper from Kazakhstan who displayed courage and self-sacrifice on the battlefield. The performance became a tribute to the heroism of Kazakh citizens who made a significant contribution to Victory.

The commemorative events in Vienna highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. Kazakhstan remains firmly committed to promoting peace, mutual understanding, and solidarity between peoples, grounded in respect for shared history and the feats of generations who defended freedom and independence.
