Ambassador of Kazakhstan Laid Wreaths at Memorials to the Liberators of Slovakia

Bratislava, May 8–9, 2025 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Slovak Republic, Zhanna Saginova, took part in events dedicated to the Victory Day commemorations in Slovakia.

On May 8, in the city of Piešťany, the Ambassador participated in ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of Slovakia’s liberation from fascism and laid flowers at the monument to soldiers who fell during World War II.

On May 9, at the military memorial complex Slavín, Ambassador Saginova honored the memory of soldiers of the Red Army who heroically fought and gave their lives in the battles for the liberation of Bratislava. The wreath-laying ceremony at Slavín was also attended by diplomats from Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, and Russia.

Background Slavín holds the status of a National Cultural Monument. Built in 1960 to mark the 15th anniversary of the liberation of Slovakia’s capital, the memorial comprises six mass graves and 318 individual tombstones bearing the names of the fallen. A total of 6,845 Red Army soldiers who died during the liberation of Bratislava and its surroundings in April 1945 are buried at Slavín.
