Kazakhstan and Indonesia Develop Cooperation in Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare

Jakarta, April 29, 2025 – As part of efforts to enhance cooperation in healthcare, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Serzhan Abdykarimov participated in the Ambassadors’ Dialogue on Health Equipment, Services and Pharmaceutical Products, organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health of Indonesia.

The event brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Pharmaceutical Companies Association, and leading Indonesian manufacturers such as “BioFarma”, “Kimia Farma”, “Dexa Group”, “Indofarma”, and “Kalbe Farma”.

In his speech, the diplomat emphasized that Kazakhstan and Indonesia are active supporters of UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 3, which aims to ensure universal access to quality and affordable healthcare and essential medicines. He highlighted that Kazakhstan became one of the few countries to independently develop and introduce its own COVID-19 vaccine, “QazVac.”

The Ambassador reminded about the Memorandums of Understanding signed between the Ministries of Health of Kazakhstan and Indonesia in 2021 and 2022, noting their importance as a solid foundation for strengthening bilateral cooperation in healthcare. At the same time, he pointed out the need to move from framework agreements to the practical implementation of joint projects and initiatives. In this regard, the Kazakh diplomat proposed the creation of a joint working group and the organization of a Kazakhstan-Indonesia roundtable on healthcare with the participation of relevant government bodies, business circles, and the scientific community.

At the end of the event, the Ambassador held separate meetings with the leadership of the Indonesian Ministry of Health and BioFarma, where they discussed the prospects for joint vaccine production, biotechnology development, and pharmaceutical product manufacturing.
