Nairobi, December 12, 2024 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia and Kenya (concurrently), Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the African Union, and to the UN Office in Nairobi, Barlybay Sadykov, held bilateral meetings with Henry Ouma Wambua, Chief of Protocol of the Office of the President of Kenya; Diana Kiambuchi, Director of the Europe and Commonwealth Department; and Elizabeth Chage, Director of the Legal Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya.
The parties discussed pressing issues on the bilateral agenda and plans to develop cooperation in political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Particular attention was given to the implementation of agreements reached by the heads of state during their meeting on September 2023 in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, as well as the outcomes of the visit of the Kazakh delegation led by the Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan on International Affairs, Erzhan Kazykhan, to Nairobi in March 2024.
The discussions also included preparations for upcoming bilateral visits at the highest and senior levels in 2025, implementation of the outcomes of the first round of political consultations held on September in Astana, the development of a bilateral legal framework, and prospects for cooperation within international organisations.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue collaboration on matters of mutual interest and outlined further joint measures to enhance cooperation. This includes the activities of four established expert groups from Kazakhstan and Kenya in the fields of trade and investment, transport, information technology, and tourism.
Additionally, to strengthen trade and economic ties, Ambassador Sadykov met with Ahmed Farah, Head of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ahmed Farah emphasised the Chamber’s interest in trade, economic, and investment cooperation with Kazakhstan and proposed sending a business delegation to Kazakhstan in 2025 to discuss ways to boost exports and imports of goods and services between the two countries, hold a business forum, and sign an updated Memorandum of Understanding between the Chambers of Commerce of both countries.
