Iran is Interested in Developing Cooperation with Kazakhstan in the Field of Agriculture

Tehran, November 6, 2024 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Iran, Ontalap Onalbayev, met with the Minister of Agricultural Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Co-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) between Kazakhstan and Iran on Trade and Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation, Gholamreza Nuri Gezelje.

At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, holding in Astana the next meeting of the IGC, and implementation of the roadmap to increase bilateral trade turnover by 3 billion US dollars, etc.

The Kazakh Ambassador emphasized the readiness of the Kazakhstan side to meet Iran’s demand for grain products, including wheat, barley, and oilseeds. He also drew attention to the current state of investment cooperation between the two countries, and the implementation of a number of projects in the field of industry, mining, and dairy products. It was noted that in order to increase mutual trade turnover Kazakhstan has updated the list of export products and today has 75 varieties of goods totaling 250 million dollars are ready for delivery to Iran.

In turn, Minister Gezelje noted that Iran is interested in increasing cooperation with Kazakhstan in the field of agriculture and expressed interest in purchasing Kazakhstan grain products. He also noted that Kazakhstan has created all conditions for foreign investors, including Iranians, and the readiness of the Iranian side to participate in priority projects in Kazakhstan actively. Minister invited the Kazakh side to effectively use the “North-South” transport corridor and the potential of transit opportunities and ports of Iran.

In addition, during the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international structures, in particular the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), and confirmed their intention to intensify further cooperation to promote IOFS projects and programs.
