
Yaoundé, August 29-30, 2024 – The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, led by Madiyar Menilbekov, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), took part in the 50th anniversary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (CFM), held in the capital of the Republic of Cameroon.
During the session, the heads of delegations from the OIC member states discussed pressing issues concerning the current situation in the Islamic world, as well as ways to develop and strengthen trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation among the OIC member states. Special attention was given to finding effective approaches to resolving acute military-political and humanitarian crises, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The heads of delegations expressed their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and called on the Israeli authorities to comply with international law and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions adopted concerning the Palestinian issue.
The 50th session of the CFM concluded with the adoption of the Yaoundé Declaration and a package of resolutions covering political, economic, legal, humanitarian, and administrative-financial aspects within the OIC member states.
Several Kazakh initiatives were reflected in the final documents, particularly concerning the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the promotion of biological security, ensuring food security, the activation of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform, the development of cultural dialogue, as well as the rehabilitation of the Aral Sea region and the former Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.
Overall, the event demonstrated the serious commitment of the OIC member states to jointly seeking effective mechanisms to address the current challenges facing the Islamic world.
During the session, a unanimous decision was made to hold the next, 51st session of the CFM in 2025 in the Republic of Turkiye.
Additionally, on the initiative of the Cameroonian side, a meeting took place between Ambassador Menilbekov and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of External Relations of the Republic of Cameroon, Umaru Chinmun, during which the parties discussed a range of bilateral and multilateral issues on the agenda.
