Kazakh Culture is More and More Recognizable in Africa

Addis Ababa, November 22, 2023 – The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia, Permanent Mission to the African Union took part in the annual international charity bazaar.

The event, held in the diplomatic capital of Africa, was attended by diplomatic missions of foreign countries accredited in Addis Ababa, representatives of large enterprises and non-profit organizations of Ethiopia. The bazaar is organized by the Diplomatic Spouses Group of Ethiopia.

Bazaar participants tasted Kazakh cuisine prepared by the spouses of employees of the Embassy of Kazakhstan. Cakes, Kazakhstani chocolate, and pilau cooked over an open fire were in great demand.

A striking element of the Kazakhstan stand was the Kazakh yurt, decorated in the national style. Visitors were able to purchase items of clothing with national symbols – skull caps, chapans, robes, camisoles, shoppers, corsets, etc. Guests of the Kazakh yurt expressed feelings of delight at the colorful and ethnic atmosphere it created. Some visitors carefully studied the yurt, others hurried to take colorful photographs with items of Kazakh clothing.

In addition, as part of the concert program, Kazakhstan presented folk dances “Kazakh bii” and “Kara Zhorga”, performed by the children of embassy employees.

According to the organizers of the bazaar, Kazakhstan is becoming increasingly recognizable in this part of the world, representing the culture and dishes of the peoples of Central Asia in Africa. The Kazakh yurt attracted many visitors, most of whom saw for the first time the dwelling of Turkic nomads, which was included in the UNESCO list of tangible heritage.

All funds raised as a result of the fair were sent to charitable organizations in Ethiopia.
