The report of Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the UN Disarmament Commission was presented at the First Committee of the UN General Assembly

New York, October 26, 2023 – A report of the annual session of the UN Disarmament Commission (UNDC) was presented at a meeting of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.

The UNDC report was presented by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Akan Rakhmetullin, who is the Chairman of the 2023 session of the Commission.

The UNDC report contains recommendations for the practical implementation of confidence-building and transparency measures in the field of preventing an arms race in outer space.

The UN Disarmament Commission is an advisory body subordinate to the General Assembly, and its functions include considering and making recommendations on various problems in the field of disarmament. The Commission meets annually for three weeks in April and conducts its work through plenary sessions and working groups.

The UN Disarmament Commission and the First Committee of the UNGA are the pillars of disarmament instruments, along with the Conference on Disarmament.
