30 Years of Successful Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Singapore

Astana, March 30, 2023 – Kazakhstan and Singapore celebrated the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. On this occasion, there was an exchange of congratulatory letters at the level of the presidents of the two countries, the speakers of parliaments, as well as the heads of foreign ministries.

The parties noted that over the past three decades, the countries have strengthened relations on the basis of close political contacts, mutually beneficial economic cooperation and friendly relations between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Singapore.

The importance of mutual support and similarity of positions on key global and regional problems is emphasized; cooperation within the UN, Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and other international organizations is actively promoted.

Bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere is developing fruitfully.

Mutual visits of representatives of Kazakhstan and Singapore state agencies to exchange experience, improve qualifications and internships have become traditional.

Singapore is one of Kazakhstan's important trading partners among ASEAN member states. In 2022, the volume of mutual trade turnover amounted to 1.9 billion US dollars. The gross inflow of direct investments from Singapore to Kazakhstan last year amounted to 310 million US dollars, and for the period from 2005 to 2022 amounted to 1.4 billion US dollars. There are around 144 enterprises with the participation of Singapore companies operating in Kazakhstan.

Legal base of the two countries includes such documents as Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation (2003), Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income (2006), Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Service and Official Passports (2018) and others.
