Montreal, March 19, 2023 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Canada, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Akylbek Kamaldinov took part in the Global Connectivity Challenges Air Transport Symposium with the participation of the President of the ICAO Council Salvatore Sciacchitano, aviation authorities of Canada, International Air Transport Association (IATA), Civil Air Navigation Service Organization (CANSO), International Partners for Aviation Development, Innovation and Sustainability (iPADIS), Council of International Airports (ACI World) and major international air carriers.
During the symposium, the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan was awarded in the category “Air Transport News Corporate Award”, which is recognition from the global aviation community of the work carried out as part of the transition to a new model of civil aviation management in our country. The Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan is a young organization, established three years ago to become an effective aviation regulator, based on international best practices.
Presenting the award to the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Director General of the Hermes-Air Transportation Organization, Kostas Latrou, stated that: “This award was the result of the carried-out work by the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan over the past 3-4 years on the transition to a new model of civil aviation management. The measures taken allowed increasing the effectiveness of flight safety control and supervision in the country and improve the image of Kazakhstan's civil aviation in the international arena”.
It should be noted that earlier, according to the results of the ICAO audit conducted in 2021, Kazakhstan achieved 82% compliance with ICAO standards. The greatest progress was achieved in the field of verification of the Civil Aviation Organization from 37.5% to 75% compliance. This indicator demonstrated the assessment of ICAO experts of a new approach in the management of the country's aviation authorities, which was also noted by experts of the European Commission during regular technical meetings held since 2021.
Speaking at the award ceremony on behalf of the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh diplomat thanked the leadership of the International Organization for the high assessment of the work carried out and constant support, and also informed about plans for 2024 to open an official Kazakh representative office at ICAO.
