30 years of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Cyprus   

April 2, 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Cyprus.

To mark this significant event, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides exchanged congratulatory letters.

Strengthening from year to year, Kazakh-Cypriot cooperation has reached a high level of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The cooperation groups established in the parliaments of the two countries also make a significant contribution to strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs meet on a regular basis including on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Exactly ten years ago, on April 2, 2012, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Mrs. Erato Kozakou-Markoullis paid the first ever official visit of a Cypriot foreign minister to Kazakhstan. In May 2019, Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides visited Astana.

Trade and economic cooperation is an important area of bilateral relations. Cyprus is one of the leading investors in Kazakhstan. From 2005 to 2020, Cypriot investors have invested 2.8 billion US dollars in the economy of Kazakhstan. In turn, during the same period, Kazakh entrepreneurs have invested about 1.3 billion US dollars in the economy of Cyprus.

In May 2019, two countries signed the Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation. Since 2020, the Cyprus-Kazakhstan Business Association has been functioning in Nicosia.

The parties attach great importance to the interaction in the legal sphere through the ministries of justice and the prosecutor general’s offices.
