Kazakhstan Participated in the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan

Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Afghanistan Yerkin Tukumov took part in the 8th meeting of the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan at the level of special representatives and senior officials.

The participants discussed the political and economic situation in Afghanistan, regional security issues, counterterrorism and combating illicit drug trafficking, as well as further prospects for engagement with Kabul.

Y.Tukumov noted the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation and its interest in further expanding trade, industrial cooperation and transport connectivity. Kazakhstan also emphasized the importance of continuing humanitarian support for Afghanistan. In June of this year, approximately 319 tonnes of humanitarian aid were sent to the country, including 161,000 units of medicines and medical devices. The ongoing practical cooperation in combating drug trafficking was noted, including the training of Afghan canine specialists and the transfer of service dogs.

In view of the continuing disagreements between the Afghan and Pakistani sides, the participants were unable to agree on a final joint statement. At the same time, the parties reaffirmed the relevance of the Moscow Format as a platform for regional dialogue and coordination of cooperation on issues of peace, security and development in Afghanistan.

In January–July 2026, trade turnover with Afghanistan amounted to USD 581.1 million, increasing 2.4 times. Particular attention was paid to the development of regional transport corridors and the participation of Kazakh businesses in infrastructure projects.
