Kazakhstan and Sweden Discuss Joint Investment Projects in Telecommunications, Mining, and Green Technologies

Astana, May 4, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov and Chairman of the Management Board of “NC “Kazakh Invest” JSC Yerzhan Yelekeyev held a meeting with Camilla Mellander, Director General for Trade Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, and representatives of leading Swedish companies.

The meeting aimed to strengthen economic ties and expand investment cooperation. The Kazakh side emphasized that Sweden is an important partner in Europe and expressed readiness for the practical implementation of joint projects in priority sectors.

Among the companies expressing interest in Kazakhstan were: Ericsson, a global leader in telecommunications equipment; Epiroc, a manufacturer of mining equipment; Sandvik Mining, specializing in drilling and mineral processing technologies; ESAB AB, an expert in welding solutions; as well as Olofsfors, IBG Aero, and other companies with high industrial and technological expertise.

The Kazakh side noted that the country is prepared to offer Swedish investors a stable macroeconomic environment, government support measures, and institutional assistance at all stages of project implementation. Areas of particular interest include partnerships in digitalization, green industry, telecom, infrastructure, mining, processing, and sustainable solutions.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Kuantyrov emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with Northern European countries, noting the considerable potential for joint efforts in several key sectors: “Kazakhstan places great importance on expanding economic relations with European countries, including the Scandinavian states. We are ready to exchange experience and jointly implement projects in digitalization, sustainable development, engineering, and new technology deployment. I am convinced that the Kazakhstan–Sweden partnership can become a model of pragmatic cooperation.”

Discussions also covered topics such as technology exchange, professional training, and joint scientific initiatives, which could form a solid foundation for a new generation of industrial cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed their intention to continue dialogue at the working level and proceed with a detailed review of proposals in specific areas.
