Astana, May 30, 2025 – On the sidelines of the Astana International Forum, a Kazakhstan-Nigeria roundtable was held with the participation of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov, Ooni of Ife Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi – head of the Nigeria’s Yoruba people, and members of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Samat Nurtaza and Maksim Rozhin.
The event brought together representatives of Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector and IT companies, along with Nigerian business leaders from the financial and tech sectors.
Participants discussed opportunities to expand economic ties between Kazakhstan and Nigeria. Special focus was given to the export of Kazakh agricultural products, including meat and meat processing, and to prospects for cooperation in digitalization and smart urban solutions. The Kazakh side highlighted its potential in organic and halal food production, deep agro-processing, and exporting agricultural goods to African markets. The dialogue also touched upon prospects for joint investment, logistics, and applying Kazakhstan’s digital technologies in Nigeria’s urbanization and infrastructure modernization.
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of Kazakhstan’s “Sergek” intelligent system, used for public safety, traffic control, and urban analytics. The Nigerian side expressed strong interest in exploring pilot projects in the country, noting the system’s relevance in managing rapid urban growth and the increasing demand for smart governance technologies.
“We view cooperation with Nigeria as one of the most promising avenues for engagement with Africa. Both countries have dynamic private sectors and complementary economies. Kazakhstan stands ready to offer practical solutions in agro-processing, export logistics, digitalization, and urban development. We are confident that today’s discussions will lay the groundwork for tangible projects and a long-term partnership that will bring real benefits to both sides,” stated Kuantyrov summing up the meeting.
The roundtable continued the deepening Kazakhstan-Africa dialogue within the framework of the AIF, reaffirming the mutual interest in practical cooperation rooted in technological partnership and sustainable development.
