The Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established in 2011 in recognition of the outstanding services of Nursultan Nazarbayev to the country.
On December 1, 1991, as a result of the first nationwide democratic elections, Nursultan Nazarbayev was elected to the post of President of the country.

By the decree of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was closed in Kazakhstan. Our country was the first in the world to renounce nuclear weapons.
Nursultan Nazarbayev stood at the origins of such authoritative international organizations as the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.
As a result of his efforts, the historic OSCE summit was held in the capital of Kazakhstan in 2010, and the Congresses of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions and many other international forums are held on a regular basis.
In 1995, on the initiative of the First President, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan was formed. Nursultan Nazarbayev is the architect of the new capital of our Motherland, which today rightfully bears his name.
Nursultan Nazarbayev continues to actively work for the welfare of his native Kazakhstan as the Chairman of the Security Council, a member of the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
