Obtaining Electronic Digital Signature (EDS) and Individual Identification Number (IIN)

Dear Citizens and Applicants,

Please be informed that as of January 1, 2026, the pilot project for issuing the Individual Identification Number (IIN) to foreign nationals through diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been suspended.

In this regard, in order to ensure access of foreign nationals to digital public services, the official online platform eResidency has been launched. This is a state program of the Republic of Kazakhstan that enables obtaining a digital identity and an IIN fully remotely.

Advantages of obtaining an IIN through eResidency:

remote issuance of a digital ID card and IIN;
access to banking and business services;
no requirement for a personal visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan or a consular office.

All interested foreign nationals are recommended to use the above-mentioned service to obtain an IIN and related services.

Electronic Digital Signature (EDS) is a set of electronic digital symbols created by means of an electronic digital signature and used to confirm the authenticity of an electronic document, its ownership, and integrity.

After obtaining an EDS registration certificate, you may sign electronic documents using the corresponding private key. Verification of the EDS is carried out through the registration certificate attached to the electronic document.

The Individual Identification Number (IIN) is required to access any digital public services of the Republic of Kazakhstan and serves as a unique identifier within state information systems.

EDS OBTAINING PROCEDURE

Visit the website of the National Certification Authority of the Republic of Kazakhstan: https://pki.gov.kz/en/;
Complete the application for obtaining an EDS;
Print out the application and sign it;
Appear at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United States with the application, an identity document (passport), and a copy of the main passport page;
After confirmation of the application by the Consular Section, download the EDS using the “Application Status Check” section on https://pki.gov.kz/en/.
