On June 18, 2021 Ambassador of Kazakhstan Sergey Nurtayev had a meeting with the Speaker of the Riksdag (Parliament) of Sweden H.E. Andreas Norlen. During the online conversation, the successful progress in the development of Kazakh-Swedish relations has been discussed, while noting the great unrealized potential of cooperation, primarily in the trade, economic and investment areas.
In the political interaction, the parties emphasized the similar approaches of two countries in different aspects of international agenda. The Ambassador informed the Speaker about the ongoing political reforms in Kazakhstan, including in the legislative sphere, concerning conducting of peaceful assemblies, registration of political parties and the representation of women and youth in the legislative bodies of the country. The Swedish side expressed its readiness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation within the framework of joint work in various international inter-parliamentary structures, such as PACE and the OSCE PA, as well as within the framework of the created Friendship Association between the Parliaments of Sweden and Central Asia.
