The Ambassador of Kazakhstan visited the city of Kumanovo

Skopje, November 25, 2024 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to North Macedonia Satybaldy Burshakov visited the city of Kumanovo.

During the meeting with the Mayor of the city, Maxim Dimitrovski, the Ambassador congratulated the head of the municipality on the 505th anniversary of the city of Kumanovo and expressed readiness to establish trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as twinning relations between the regions of the two countries. The Kazakh diplomat expressed confidence that the recent appointment of Eyup Abdullahi, a citizen of North Macedonia, as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kumanovo will give a new impetus to bilateral relations.

Ambassador Burshakov acquainted the mayor with the main directions of political and socio-economic development of our country, prospects for expanding Kazakh-Macedonian cooperation, as well as initiative proposals.

Dimitrovski, warmly recalling his visit to Astana in 2018 to participate in the First Forum of Mayors of the Silk Road Countries, welcomed the opening of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Skopje this year and the appointment of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kumanovo, spoke about the activities of the municipality, its history, and the economic potential of the region.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to include in the bilateral agenda for 2025, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and North Macedonia, the official opening of the office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kumanovo, performing a cultural event with the participation of Kazakhstani musical groups, and also to consider the possibility of establishing sister city relations between the cities of Kokshetau and Kumanovo.

The Ambassador thanked the mayor for the warm welcome and presented him with «The Book of Words» by the great Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbayev.

For reference: Kumanovo is the third-largest city in North Macedonia (about 100 thousand residents), the administrative center of the Kumanovo municipality, founded in 1519. The historical name of the city is associated with the Turkic people of the Kumans (Kipchaks). The city's multi-ethnic population includes Macedonians, Albanians, Serbs, Roma, Turks, Vlachs, and Bosniaks. The leading industrial enterprise of Kumanovo is the steel pipe plant FZC 11 Oktomvri (1953), one of the largest in south-eastern Europe, producing welded pipes for the oil and gas industry and public utilities.
