Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia Elevate Archival Cooperation to a New Level

Riyadh, September 7-9, 2026 – At the official invitation of the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), a delegation led by the leadership of the National Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted a working visit to Riyadh.

During the visit, Sagila Nurlanova, Director of the National Archive of Kazakhstan, and Turki bin Mohammed Al-Alshuwaier, CEO of the Darah Foundation, held bilateral talks.

The parties discussed expanding inter-agency cooperation, undertaking joint research on historical records, enhancing academic and information exchanges, and sharing best practices in integrating advanced digital technologies into archival workflows.

Following the negotiations, both sides signed a bilateral Executive Program. This agreement outlines practical steps to implement the provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed on May 22, 2025.

Additionally, a comprehensive cultural and educational program was organized for the Kazakh delegation. The delegates toured the National Museum of Saudi Arabia, the King Salman Restoration Center, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Historic Diriyah, the King Abdulaziz Public Library, the King Fahad National Library, and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, exploring their operations and archival collections.

Both sides affirmed that this visit will provide new momentum for the study of shared history and heritage while strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.
