Lonely Planet has announced Kazakhstan as one of the best countries for travelling in its annual Best in Travel 2025 ranking.

Every year, Lonely Planet experts make a careful selection of destinations based on recommendations from travellers, staff, authors and other travel professionals. In 2025, the choice fell on Kazakhstan, which stands out among other countries for its rich history, diverse landscapes and unique cultural heritage.

Yerzhan Erkinbayev, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan said: ‘The inclusion of Kazakhstan in the Best in Travel 2025 ranking of such an authoritative publication as Lonely Planet reflects the growing interest worldwide in tourism in Kazakhstan.  As we continue to promote the country's authentic culture and diverse nature internationally, we remain committed to sustainable tourism.’

Nitya Chambers, senior vice president of content and executive editor of Lonely Planet, said, ‘Best in Travel 2025 is our latest version of our annual love letter to the world. We're proud of the destinations we've included in this edition and are excited to share the insight and local knowledge behind our recommendations. We are confident that our list will inspire travellers to make new discoveries next year.’

Kazakhstan, which made the prestigious list, is described as a country where ancient traditions and modernity intertwine and every visitor can find something unique to discover. The Lonely Planet publication says: ‘Kazakhstan is not just a place to visit, it is a whole world to discover, a journey worth taking and a story to be part of. The rustle of the ancient Silk Road can be felt on the vast steppes surrounding Kazakhstan's cities.’

Well-known world travelling editions highly estimate the tourist potential of Kazakhstan. Conde Nast Traveler and Wanderlust included Kazakhstan in the top world destinations for travelling in 2024. Also, the city of Almaty was included in the TOP-52 best tourist destinations according to The New York Times.
