Strengthening scientific co-operation between Kazakhstan and Latvia

On 21-23 September 2023, at the invitation of the Latvian side, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kunsulu Zakaria, visited Riga.

During the meeting with Ivars Kalvins, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Latvia, the parties thoroughly discussed issues of further development and deepening of Kazakh-Latvian co-operation in scientific and educational spheres. A Memorandum was signed between the academies of sciences of the two countries aimed at intensifying interaction between Kazakh and Latvian scientists, implementation of joint projects, as well as cooperation in the line of research institutions.

Within the framework of the visit, K.Zakaria took part in the VI International Economic Forum: "Open Innovations: from human creativity to innovation economy", which is annually organised and held by the Institute of Economics of Latvia. Speaking at the Forum, K.Zakaria told about the main priorities of science development in Kazakhstan and measures to further strengthen scientific potential in the country. Special attention in the report was paid to the formation of a new model of scientific management, which is based on the principle of wide use of public-private partnership for the introduction and practical implementation of innovative projects, which corresponds to the goals and objectives set by the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev before the national science.

On the recommendation of Latvian scientists K.Zakaria visited leading research institutions of Latvia, such as - National Centre for Biomedical Research, Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, laboratories for environmental protection and biosystems of Riga Technical University, as well as the Academic Library of the University of Latvia.
