This year marks the 155th anniversary of the birth of Alikhan Bokeikhan – Founder of the Kazakh national liberation movement in the early XX century and Leader of #ALASH party, an outstanding public and state figure, scientist.
We want to introduce you with his great personality in brief.
Alikhan Nurmuhameduly BOKEIKHAN was born on March 5 1866, in Karkaraly district of the Semipalatinsk region. He comes from the kin - Tore, which belongs to the eldest son of Genghis Khan - Jochi. His great-grandfather is the famous Sultan Barak. One of the last Kazakh khans Bokey is the son of this Sultan Barak. From Bokey was born a Batyr, from him Myrzatai, from him the father of Alikhan – Nurmukhamed.
Alikhan grew up smart and enterprising from childhood. His father took him to Karkaraly and sent him to study with a local priest. But little Alikhan, not satisfied with priest's studies, goes to a three-grade elementary school in the city at his own request. After his graduation, he studied for seven years at a school for Kazakh children in the city of Karkaralinsk.
In 1886, he was educated at a 4-year technical school in Omsk, then at the Faculty of Economics of the Institute of Forestry in St. Petersburg. Alikhan Bukeikhan passed the emergency exam at the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg University and received a law degree. And after studying, he returned to Omsk, where he worked as a mathematics teacher at a forestry school. At that time, he was a member of the editorial board of the newspaper "Steppe Land".
Alikhan Bukeikhan wrote not only fundamental research on cow-breeding, sheep-breeding and horse-breeding of the Kazakhs, but also hundreds of articles on history, ethnography, literature and folklore. He collected and published several samples of oral folk art known as – "Kozy Korpesh-Bayan Sulu"," Er Targyn", "ER Sayyn".
In 1916, the term of deportation expired, and Alikhan, who arrived from Samara to Orenburg, immediately intervened in the social and political life of the city. On behalf of the Kazakh population of the city, he is elected to the City Duma.
Later, in December 1917, Kazakh autonomy was declared at the kurultai of all Kazakhs, and Alikhan Bukeikhan was elected the First Chairman of this first Kazakh Autonomous Republic.
On September 27, 1937, an outstanding public and state figure, scientist Alikhan Bukeikhanov, who founded the Kazakh national liberation movement, was executed in Moscow on false charges. The sentence was carried out on the same day.
