Kazakhstan and Oman diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Sultanate of Oman were established on April 27, 1992.

The Embassy of Kazakhstan to Oman was opened on October 15, 2010.  The Embassy of Oman in Kazakhstan has been working since August, 2006.

In 2022 Kazakhstan and Oman celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Over the years of independence Kazakh-Omani relations have developed steadily and dynamically, and relations in the areas of politics, economy, trade, culture and tourism have been consistently strengthened.

Historically important was the first official visit of H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev, First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Sultanate of Oman, which took place in September 1997.

By the invitation of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the second visit of Nazarbayev on March 15-18, 2008 strengthened further political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation,

Inter-parliamentary cooperation develops in a positive way. September 23-24, 2019 H.E. Khalid Al-Mawali, Chairman of the Consultative Council (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) participated in the IV Meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Parliaments in Astana, during which he met with the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Speakers of both chambers of the Parliament and the Prime Minister.

On December 9-10, 2019, H.E. Bektas Beknazarov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, visited Oman. During the visit Kazakh official met with the Chairman of the State Council (Upper House of the Parliament), Chairman of the Advisory Council (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) and the Deputy Chairman of the State Council.

Economic cooperation is actively developing. The trade value of the two countries January-August 2022 reached M5.6$. The trade turnover between the two countries amounted in 2021, M2.8$, in 2020 - 273.5$ thousand, and in 2019 - 472$ thousand.  

Between 2005 and December 2020 the direct investments from Oman to Kazakhstan amounted to USD 2534 million. OQ Omani state oil company is involved as a part of International Consortium in the development of the Dunga oil field in Kazakhstan.

Since September 2019, Kazakhstan has announced a visa-free regime for citizens of Oman for a period of one month. Since April 2022, in Oman a visa-free regime for 14-day has been in effect for citizens of Kazakhstan. Cooperation is actively developing in tourism, transit and transport and other areas.
