Trade and economic cooperation
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Great Britain during January to November 2024 amounted $800.8 million (exports – 388.9 million, imports – 411.9 million).
As of December 2024, 580 enterprises with British participation operate in Kazakhstan.
The UK is one of the 10 largest investors to the economy of Kazakhstan. Based on the results of 9 months of 2024, the volume of British investment in Kazakhstan amounted 546.2 million dollars. In total, during the years of independence, the gross inflow of FDI to Kazakhstan from the Great Britain amounted 22.09 billion dollars. The key sectors of investment cooperation are oil and gas, mining, financial sphere, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy and civil aviation.
Consultation Mechanisms
The main mechanism of bilateral economic interaction is the Kazakh-British Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation (IGC). In 2023 2 meetings of the IGC were held under the co-chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and the Minister of State of the United Kingdom. (the 9th meeting took place on 7 February 2023 in London and the 10th meeting took place on 21 November 2023 in Astana).
An important platform for interaction between the business communities of the two countries is the Kazakh-British Business Council. The 4th meeting of the Council took place on 28 October 2021 in London.
