November 19, 2024 – Senators from the Republic of Kazakhstan and Malaysia held an online meeting under the framework of the "Kazakhstan – Malaysia" inter-parliamentary friendship group and discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy and the expansion of collaboration in trade, economy, and cultural sectors.
In his opening remarks, Deputy President of the Malaysian Senate, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, highlighted Kazakhstan as one of the key partners in Central Asia. He affirmed Malaysia’s Senate’s readiness to fully support the deepening of bilateral relations.
The head of the Kazakhstan delegation, Suyindik Aldashev, Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Innovation Development, and Entrepreneurship of the Senate of the Parliament, stated that there is significant potential to increase trade turnover between the two countries, and special attention should be given to developing cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Kazakh senators shared information about political and socio-economic transformations underway in the country. Representatives from Malaysia, in turn, emphasized the importance of joint initiatives in energy, education, healthcare, and food security.
As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to continue their commitment to active cooperation within the framework of the inter-parliamentary friendship group. Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed extended an invitation to the Kazakh counterparts for an official visit to Kuala Lumpur in 2025, coinciding with Malaysia's presidency in the ASEAN Chairmanship.
This meeting marked another step in strengthening mutual understanding and strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Malaysia and opened new prospects for inter-parliamentary dialogue.
