Chess tournament was held in Malaysia as part of the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan

On April 26, the Embassy of Kazakhstan hosted prize winners of the chess tournament dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence, which was held on Saturday with support from the Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan in the state of Selangor.

The first prize was won by Sumant Subramaniam, engineer, FIDE Master from Kuala Lumpur, while the second prize was won by 11-year-old schoolboy Shen Ree Herng, a native of Selangor state. Noor Hafiz Mohd Nor, FIDE instructor and arbiter from Putrajaya won the third prize. The winners were awarded a cup, medals, as well as various mementos and Kazakhstan themed souvenirs.

Although it was the first tournament dedicated to the Independence of Kazakhstan the event was held with a high level of participation – the turnout exceeded 200 persons, including amateurs and international level professionals, members of the Malaysian Chess Federation and the International Chess Federation’s (FIDE) Masters.

The chess tournament dedicated to the Independence of Kazakhstan will be held on an annual basis.
