New York, March 12, 2026 – Kazakhstan delegation led by Elvira Azimova, Chair of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, took part in a series of side events during the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
On the sidelines of the anniversary session, an event was held on the theme “Pathways for accelerating sustainable financing for gender equality for all women and girls,” organized by the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the UN in conjunction with the diplomatic missions of Brazil, Timor-Leste, the Maldives, and Uruguay, with the participation of UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous.
During the session, UN member states and international partners discussed issues related to mobilizing sustainable financing and developing investment instruments aimed at promoting gender equality.
At the side event “Future of justice: technological pathways for women’s access,” the Kazakhstan delegation emphasized the potential of digital technologies in expanding safe and effective access for women to legal protection mechanisms. Particular attention was paid to issues of personal data protection, ethical aspects of technology use, and strengthening international cooperation and exchange of national experience in this area.
In addition, the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the UN, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme and the UN Development Programme, organized an event on “Access to justice in the energy transition: gender-responsive governance in the critical minerals sector in Kazakhstan and beyond.” Elvira Azimova, Chair of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan and Ivana Živković, Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, delivered welcoming remarks.
Participants emphasized the importance of integrating gender considerations into natural resource management and ensuring effective access to justice for women and local communities in the context of the energy transition.
