New York, 23 September 2025 – Within the framework of his participation in the events of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered remarks at the High-Level Meeting on the People’s Republic of China’s initiatives in the field of global development and global governance. The event was dedicated to the theme “Staying True to Original Aspirations and Jointly Creating a Bright Future for Global Development.”
The Head of State expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for organizing such an important and timely meeting.
“We highly value the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping of China and his active efforts aimed at building a more just, inclusive, and effective framework for international cooperation. In this context, Kazakhstan fully supports China’s global initiatives, which represent a response to current geopolitical and economic challenges,” – stated the President.
President Tokayev further underscored that Kazakhstan supports the Global Development Initiative, designed to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
“This is in line with China’s most recent strategic proposal – the Global Governance Initiative, advanced by President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin. It is intended to serve as a source of positive influence in an unstable world, helping to better reflect the interests and aspirations of the majority of nations. At the same time, the United Nations will continue to play a central role,” – emphasized President Tokayev.
As noted in his remarks, the Initiative offers solutions to pressing issues of the global order, including ensuring sovereign equality, upholding the rule of international law, strengthening multilateral institutions, and advancing approaches focused on safeguarding the well-being and interests of people.
“Moreover, the Global Governance Initiative reflects the need to guarantee fair access to digital technologies, a secure cyberspace, and outer space. This is particularly relevant in the context of developing regulatory frameworks and ethical standards for the use of artificial intelligence. In this regard, Kazakhstan supports China’s proposal to establish a Global Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence,” – underlined the Head of State.
President Tokayev also pointed out that the Global Governance Initiative aligns with the objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative, which has already united more than 150 countries.
In conclusion, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that cooperation in the implementation of global initiatives will contribute to the achievement of the fundamental goals of the United Nations.
