DGB Group CEO Selwyn Duijvestijn Visits Kazakhstan to Advance Environmental Projects in the Aral Region

The Hague, November, 2024 — From November 25 to 28, 2024, Selwyn Duijvestijn, CEO of Dutch company DGB Group, visited Kazakhstan to discuss the implementation of environmental projects in the Aral region. During his visit, he held meetings with the Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Kazakhstan,               Mr. Yerlan Nysanbayev, representatives of Samruk-Kazyna Invest, KAZAKH INVEST.

The discussions focused on an ambitious project to restore the ecosystem of the Aral region. The initiative involves planting trees on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea to stabilize soil, reduce salt and dust storms, and improve environmental conditions. The first phase of tree planting is set to begin in spring 2025.

It is noteworthy that in May of this year, ahead of the visit of the then Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Kazakhstan, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Akimat of the Kyzylorda region, the Kazakhstan Biodiversity Conservation Fund, and DGB Group to facilitate the implementation of this project.

As part of this initiative, DGB Group plans to generate carbon credits for the international market. These credits will play a crucial role in attracting investments into environmental projects and enabling global companies to offset their carbon footprints through sustainable initiatives.
