
On This Day, 30 years ago, January 23, 1992, the UN Security Council at its 3034th meeting unanimously adopted resolution 732 (1992), in which "having examined the application of the Republic of Kazakhstan for admission to membership in the United Nations", recommended "to the General Assembly that the Republic of Kazakhstan be admitted to membership in the United Nations."
In a Statement on behalf of the members of the Security Council, the President of the Council called the decision "indeed an historic occasion.” He added: "I have no doubt that it will have an important contribution to make in every area of the work of United Nations work."
The Chairman stated: "The members of the Council are confident that Kazakhstan, as a peace-loving State that is able and willing to carry out the obligations contained in the Charter of the United Nations, will contribute actively and constructively in upholding the Principles and Purposes of the Charter."
