On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a commemoration of Soviet soldiers was held in Budapest

Budapest, April 7, 2025. – Within the framework of the plan of events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War: “Great Victory: A Tribute to Heroism, An Example for Future Generations”, Abzal Saparbekuly, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary participated in the ceremony of honoring the memory and laying wreaths at the monument to Soviet soldiers to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Hungary from fascism.

The ambassadors and representatives of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan accredited to Hungary participated in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Soviet Heroes Monument on Liberty Square, where they paid tribute to the Soviet soldiers who perished fighting fascism.

Following the event, the embassies signed a memorandum on mutual cooperation in the field of war memorials within the framework of an exhibition of archival collections of the Ministries of Culture of the CIS member states, which was held in the Russian Cultural Centre on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Memorandum includes joint activities for the preservation and protection of the graves of fallen soldiers in Hungary and the search for the remains of unknown soldiers.

Furthermore, the ambassadors signed the Memorial Book of the Cultural Center "80 Years of Victory" dedicated to the heirs of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

It should be noted that as a result of the long, bloody fighting on the territory of Hungary, the Soviet army suffered significant losses. The liberation of Hungary took 195 days and nights, and more than 140,000 Soviet soldiers died.

According to the updated data, there are 826 Soviet war graves, 10 monuments, 3 memorials and 3 commemorative plaques on the territory of Hungary - a total of 842 objects.
