Marcali, July 25, 2024 – Representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Hungary took part in a wreath-laying ceremony to mark the opening of a Soviet war grave after restoration. The opening of the memorial took place in the Hungarian town of Marcali (Somogyi region).
It is worth noting that from November 7 to December 10, 1944, the Apatin-Kaposvár Offensive Operation on forcing the river Danube and further exit on Budapest took place in this region, with natives from Kazakhstan taking part.
The burial site is a circular area with three stones of varying heights, around which memorial slabs bearing the names of buried soldiers are arranged in the shape of a five-pointed star. Around the five-pointed star, horizontal slabs representing grave markers are spirally laid out. The total number of soldiers buried in Marсali is 2050.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducts war memorial activities on a permanent basis in Hungary, including the search for burial sites of Kazakhstani soldiers.
