Monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators opened in Paks after renovations

Budapest, May 1, 2024 – The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary attended the inauguration ceremony of the renovated monument in the city of Paks, where Soviet soldiers who perished in the Great Patriotic War of 1944-1945 are buried.

In addition to the Republic of Kazakhstan Embassy, representatives from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Russia lay wreaths at the Monument, where 150 Soviet troops and officers are interred.

According to Sherali Mamasoliev, chief of the Russian Defense Ministry's representative office for war memorial work in Hungary, the monument in Paks was erected at the burial site of 150 Soviet soldiers and officers who died in fights with the Nazis between 1944 and 1945. The names of 104 of them were identified and immortalized on memorial plates as a result of the search efforts. The names of 46 persons remain unknown. The majority of the names of the slain Soviet soldiers were written on the memorial plaque for the first time.
