
Brussels, March 7, 2025 – A meeting took place between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium, Margulan Baimukhan, and the newly appointed EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Ambassador Eduards Stiprais.
The Kazakh diplomat congratulated Mr. Stiprais on his appointment, expressing confidence that his work will contribute to further strengthening the strategic partnership between the EU and Central Asia. It was emphasized that Kazakhstan highly values the implementation of the EU-Central Asia Roadmap, adopted in 2023, and looks forward to the active advancement of joint initiatives.
Mr. Stiprais reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing cooperation, highlighting the importance of sustainable economic growth, digital transformation, and regional stability. He also outlined plans to visit Central Asian countries in the near future to discuss key areas of partnership.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key aspects of bilateral engagement, including upcoming high-level events, trade and economic cooperation, transport connectivity, energy, and security issues. Security issues were also discussed, including cooperation within the regional programs BOMCA, CADAP, and LEICA, aimed at strengthening border control, combating drug trafficking, and enhancing cybersecurity in Central Asia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan invited Mr. Stiprais to attend the Astana International Forum in June 2025, which will serve as a crucial platform for discussions on sustainable development and regional integration.
Both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing the partnership between Central Asia and the European Union
