Kazakh Ambassador Holds Meeting at European Commission on Migration and Home Affairs

BRUSSELS, 16 September 2025 – Head of the Mission of Kazakhstan to the European Union, Ambassador Roman Vassilenko held a meeting with Johannes Luchner, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union in the field of law enforcement, including combating illegal migration, matters of readmission, strengthening border control, drawing on the best practices of European law enforcement agencies, as well as preparations for the practical launch of negotiations on agreements on visa facilitation for Kazakh citizens and readmission.

The Kazakh diplomat informed his interlocutor about the positive migration statistics regarding Kazakh citizens travelling to EU countries, stressing the absence of migration risks and their strict observance at the laws of host countries. The Ambassador reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to international standards in the field of migration and expressed interest in further developing mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union.

For his part, Mr. Luchner commended Kazakhstan’s role in Central Asia and its contribution to ensuring regional security and stability. He emphasized the importance of continuing constructive dialogue and the exchange of experience between the parties in addressing issues of migration and security.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain a regular dialogue on priority areas of cooperation and exchange of expertise.
