The Federal Republic of Brazil recognized the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan on December 26, 1991.
Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Brazil were established on September 22, 1993.
In August 2006, the opening of the Embassy of Brazil took place in Nur-Sultan.
In October 2012, the opening of the Embassy of Kazakhstan took place in Brasilia.
Kazakh-Brazilian cooperation is determined by the agreements reached as a result of bilateral top-level state visits in 2007 and 2009 and visits of foreign ministers in 2013 and 2018.
The mechanism of inter-MFA political consultations is functioning successfully. Inter-parliamentary collaboration is developing.
Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Brazil is developing steadily in a multilateral format. Countries provided mutual support to candidatures for the UN Human Rights Council for 2012-2015. Kazakhstan supported Brazil's candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council for 2017-2019, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the UN International Court of Justice, the Interpol Executive Committee. Brazil supported the candidacy of Kazakhstan to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Today, the legal framework of Kazakh-Brazilian cooperation is based on 8 interstate and intergovernmental agreements, as well as 13 interdepartmental documents in various fields.
