

This year, the 125th anniversary of Temirbek Zhurgenov, a prominent Kazakh politician, writer and educator, is widely celebrated.
His name is associated with the cultural revolution in the countries of Central Asia. As Minister of Public Education, he made tremendous efforts to resolve issues related to the establishment of primary and secondary education in the region. Thanks to him, the construction of six largest universities in Kazakhstan and throughout Central Asia began in Almaty.
For an invaluable contribution to the formation and development of the national culture of the Turkic peoples, 2023 was declared the Year of Temirbek Zhurgenov.
Zhurgenov also contributed to the tremendous development of the Kazakh national opera, cinematography and Kazakh dramaturgy, collected and recorded many works of oral and poetic creativity of the Kazakhs. In 1924, he published one of the first collections of songs and poems by improvising poets of Kazakhstan called "Terme" ("Collection").
The works of Zhurgenov reflected the problems of the history of Kazakhstan, the work of a number of folk composers was evaluated.
Streets, schools, the National Academy of Arts are named after him.
