Discussions on Strengthening Trade and Economic Cooperation Between Kazakhstan and Serbia Held in Belgrade

Belgrade, August 14, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov paid a working visit to Belgrade. The primary focus of the visit was to discuss progress in implementing high-level agreements reached following the official visit of the Head of State to Serbia in 2024, as well as the visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to Astana in February 2026.

During a meeting with Ivica Dačić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Serbia, the parties discussed the practical implementation of the provisions of the Protocol from the 4th meeting of the Kazakh-Serbian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, along with the prospects for holding the next meeting of the Commission and its agenda.

An exchange of views on current regional and international issues of mutual interest took place during a meeting with Damjan Jović, State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The parties noted the high level of political cooperation between the two countries, which are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, and expressed their readiness for further partnership, both bilaterally and in the context of mutual support on the international stage. The Serbian side expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for its steadfast support of Serbia’s territorial integrity.

Issues relating to Kazakhstan's participation in the forthcoming international specialized exhibition EXPO-2027 in Belgrade were discussed with Jagoda Lazarević, Serbia’s Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade and Commissioner for the exhibition. Particular emphasis was placed on Astana’s experience with the post-exhibition use of EXPO-2017 infrastructure.

The parties also expressed a mutual interest in further enhancing cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. Mrs. Lazarević highlighted Kazakhstan's achievements as a global bridge between Europe and Asia, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to strengthen mutual food and energy security.

Following the meeting with Nenad Popović, Serbia’s Minister for International Economic Cooperation, Belgrade's commitment to deepening multifaceted economic cooperation with Kazakhstan was reaffirmed. Significant potential for cooperation was noted in the fields of the nuclear industry, agriculture, higher education, as well as space technology, digitalization, and artificial intelligence.

The prospects for expanding trade and economic ties between the business communities of the two countries were discussed during a meeting with the leadership of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and key members of the Kazakh-Serbian Business Council.
