NUR-SULTAN, 18 June 2020 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi participated in a High-Level Video Conference on Belt and Road International Cooperation themed "Solidarity in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic".
The event was also attended by heads of international organisations (UN, WHO) and foreign ministers of countries of the CIS, South-East Asia, Eastern Europe and North Africa.
Participants of the video conference discussed measures and interaction to fight the COVID-19 epidemic, and exchanged views on economic recovery and further implementation of BRI projects in the post-pandemic period.
Mr. Tileuberdi stated the need to strengthen practical cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 and stimulate accelerated digitisation of BRI states' economies. Kazakhstan supported the initiatives to create the "healthcare silk road" and the development of the "digital silk road". In this context, the Minister said that Kazakhstan is ready to continue playing an important role as a transit and transport hub connecting Asia and Europe.
A Joint Statement was adopted calling on all countries to help restore the global economy as soon as possible through strengthening international cooperation in the context of the coronavirus infection.
