On 16 December 1991, Türkiye was the first to recognize the independence of Kazakhstan.
On 2 March 1992 diplomatic relations were established.
From 15 March 2022, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Türkiye is Yerkebulan Sapiyev.
From 13 January 2020, the Turkish Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan is Ufuk Ekici.
Political cooperation
In October 1992, the first foreign Embassy of Kazakhstan was opened in Ankara during the first official visit of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy N.Nazarbayev to Türkiye.
Consulates General of the Republic of Kazakhstan are present in Istanbul and Antalya, as well as 7 Honorary Consulates of the Republic of Kazakhstan are present in various cities of Türkiye (Denizli, Alanya, Bursa, Bitlis, Hatay, Konya and Mersin).
Consulates General of Türkiye are functioning in Almaty and Aktau. Honorary Consulate present in Shymkent. Currently, work is underway to open the Consulate General of Türkiye in Turkistan.

Since gaining independence, since 1992, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy N.Nazarbayev has visited Türkiye with state, official, working visits 24 times. In turn, the Presidents of the Republic of Türkiye visited Kazakhstan 16 times, the Prime-Ministers of the Republic of Türkiye 6 times.
During the official visit of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to Türkiye on 21-23 October 2009, an Agreement on Strategic Partnership was signed between Kazakhstan and Türkiye.
On 22-24 May 2012, the official visit of the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Türkiye R.T.Erdogan was held to the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the visit, a Joint Statement on the Establishment of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the “New Synergy” Joint Economic Program were signed.
On 11-12 October 2012 within the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev to Türkiye, the first meeting of the Council for Strategic Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Türkiye was held. Also, within the framework of the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Republic of Kazakhstan in April 2015, the second meeting of the Türkiye- Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was held.
On 9 July 2018, the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.Sagintayev attended inauguration of the President of Türkiye R.T.Erdogan.
On 12-13 September 2018, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev participated in the 3rd meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council as part of his official visit to Türkiye.
On 12 November 2021, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev paid a working visit to Istanbul in order to participate in the VIII Summit of the Turkic.
On 10-11 May 2022, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev paid a state visit to Türkiye. As a result of the visit, a "Joint Statement on Expanded Strategic Partnership" was signed, as well as 6 intergovernmental and 8 interdepartmental documents.
On 12-13 October 2022, the state visit of the President of the Republic of Türkiye R.T.Erdogan to Kazakhstan took place. The President participated in the 4th meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. As a result of the visit, 6 interdepartmental documents were signed. During the visit, the President of the Republic of Türkiye attended the 6th CICA Summit.
Interparliamentary cooperation
On 8-9 October 2018, the Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nigmatullin attended the 3rd meeting of the Speakers of the Eurasian Parliaments in Antalya.
On 20-21 November 2018, the Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nigmatullin attended the 8th Plenary meeting of TURKPA in Izmir.
On 26-27 September 2021, a delegation headed by the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye M.Shentop paid an official visit to Kazakhstan and attended the 10th Plenary meeting of TURKPA in Turkistan. On 24 September 2019 Speaker M.Shentop also took part in the 4th meeting of the speakers of the Eurasian parliaments.
Between 29 September to 2 October 2022, the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.Koshanov attended the IV World Nomad Games in Iznik, Türkiye. Within the framework of the event, the Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with the President of Türkiye R.T.Erdogan.
Cooperation between the Foreign ministries
On 19-20 April 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Abdrakhmanov paid an official visit to Türkiye.
On 24 May 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye M.Çavuşoğlu visited Kazakhstan.
On 17-18 March 2021, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Tleuberdi paid an official visit to Türkiye. During the visit, the 6th meeting of the Kazakh-Turkish joint strategic planning group was held.
On 17-20 June 2021, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Tleuberdi visited Türkiye to participate in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.
On 26-27 September 2021, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Tleuberdi participated in an extraordinary meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Istanbul), dedicated to the situation in Afghanistan.
On 11-12 October 2021, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal attended the 6th CICA Foreign Ministers Meeting in Astana.
On 11 November 2021, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.Tleuberdi attended the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Turkic Council in Istanbul.
On 24 February 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye M.Çavuşoğlu visited Kazakhstan and participated in the 7th meeting of the Joint Kazakh-Turkish Strategic Planning Group.
