Kazakh Ambassador Discusses Coffee and Tea Trade with Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, 31 December 2024  – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia and Kenya (concurrently), Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the African Union and the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Barlybay Sadykov, held a meeting with Adugna Debela (Phd), Director General of Ethiopia’s Coffee and Tea Authority.

The parties discussed prospects for the export of Ethiopian coffee and tea to Kazakhstan, as well as the development of investment cooperation. Ambassador B.Sadykov highlighted the high demand for Ethiopian coffee and tea in Central Asia and added that Kazakhstan, in turn, is ready to offer Ethiopia exports of mineral resources, metals, petroleum products, and modern technologies, including IT solutions.

Dr. A.Debela noted that Ethiopia is actively increasing its coffee and tea production, aiming at new markets, including Asia. He emphasised the relevance of Kazakhstan’s proposals and expressed readiness for collaboration.

The parties agreed to explore the creation of a coffee hub in Kazakhstan and a tea processing plant in Ethiopia, as well as to organise a working visit by the Coffee and Tea Authority to Kazakhstan.
