Memorandum Signed on Construction of a Data Centre with Capacity of up to 200 MW in Kazakhstan

On the sidelines of the international technology forum GITEX AI, the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of cooperation with the international consortium JMOT04, the purpose of which is to attract the world's largest hyperscale operators to Kazakhstan and create world-class digital infrastructure.

The memorandum provides for the implementation of a project to construct a highly reliable Tier III–Tier IV data centre on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The planned capacity of the facility is between 50 and 200 MW. The estimated investment in the construction of a 200 MW data centre (Tier IV level) is in the range of 1 to 1.5 billion US dollars.

To ensure a stable independent energy supply for the project, the construction of a gas-fired power plant with a capacity of up to 250 MW is envisaged, with an estimated investment of between 200 and 400 million US dollars. This component of the project will be carried out by Ample Solution Limited.

At the current stage, the optimal location for the project is being selected, with priority given to sites situated near gas infrastructure, which will enable efficient electricity generation and high operational reliability.

"Kazakhstan possesses a unique geographical location, a favourable climate, and competitive electricity costs. These factors form a solid foundation for the placement of international data centres and the development of digital infrastructure," noted Zhaslan Madiyev.

The implementation of the project is aimed at developing Kazakhstan's digital infrastructure, attracting foreign investment, and strengthening the country's position as a regional technology hub.
