Uzbekistan and the Philippines to assume the chairmanship of the Association of Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions

Within the framework of the 6th Congress of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions, a meeting of the Council of Members of the Association was held, the agenda of which included discussion of the issues of the next presidency of the Association.

By joint decision, the member countries supported the initiatives on the next presidency of the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan in 2025-2027 and the Supreme Court of the Philippines in 2027-2029.

Background: The Association was established in 2010 as a regional forum of constitutional justice bodies in Asia. The purpose of the Association is to promote the protection of human rights, guarantee democracy, ensure the rule of law, the independence of constitutional courts and equivalent institutions, cooperation and exchange of experience and information among participants. According to Article 14 of the Association's Statutes, the President of the Association shall be the president or head of the participant to organize the next Congress. The next presidency is discussed at the meeting of the Council of Members of the Association, at which the member countries wishing to preside declare their intention to preside. There are currently 21 participating countries in the Association.

Over the years, the constitutional review bodies of Korea (2010-2012), Turkey (2012-2014), Indonesia (2014-2017), the Federal Court of Malaysia (2017-2019), Kazakhstan (2019-2021), and Mongolia (2021-2023) have presided over the Association. The current President is the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Thailand (2023-2025).
