We are often asked what is the difference between obtaining an IIN and citizenship. The individual identification
number is a unique combination of 12 digits, which is assigned to citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan at birth.
Foreign citizens can apply for an IIN at the PSC. At the same time, an IIN can be obtained by a citizen of any
foreign state for conducting business, financial transactions. The IIN is a tool that does not talk about citizenship at
all.
Citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan can be obtained by persons who have been permanently residing in the
territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan for at least 5 years, married to a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan who
has been living in the country for at least three years, as well as persons who have one of the close relatives,
