
Karaganda athlete Zhansai Smagulov won silver at the Grand Prix of the World Tour of the International Judo Federation. The first competition of this season started in Portugal. About 550 masters from 81 countries take part in it.

Zhansai Smagulov became the second in the weight category up to 73 kg, where 60 judoists competed.
Karagandinets came out of group B, having won against a Swede, a Ukrainian and a Belgian in the qualifying round. In the semifinals, Smagulov defeated the Spaniard Jose-Antonio Aranda with an ippon (ahead of schedule). But in the decisive battle, he lost to the bronze medalist of the 2021 World Cup from Uzbekistan, Obidkhon Nomonov.
