
The Kazakh film "Kazhymukan" won the XXIX International Film Festival IPAAF – Apoxiomeno in Italy.

The film won all the key awards of the festival: "Best Film", "Best Actor" (Erbol Tolepbergen), "Best Director" (Kanagat Mustafin) and "Best Screenplay" (Kanagat Mustafin, Zhanat Kasabekov).

Director Kanagat Mustafin began work on the script of the historical film back in 2012. Filming started in 2020, and the work itself was accompanied by more than a decade of research. The film was presented to the audience on the big screen and was released last year.

The film tells about an outstanding personality – Kazhymukan Munaytpasov, the first Kazakh to become a world champion in French wrestling. He has achieved international recognition by winning world, Russian, regional and All-Union classic wrestling championships in the heavyweight category. During his career, he won about fifty medals and awards, becoming a symbol of strength, courage and national pride.

The film was created with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Center for the Support of National Cinema.
The IPAAF – Apoxiomeno festival has an almost 30-year history of holding. The prestigious international film festival in Italy annually awards the best works in the field of cinema, art and culture. Special attention is paid to works that raise significant social issues, as well as films with high artistic value and influence on cultural development. Over the years, outstanding figures of cinema and art from all over the world have become its laureates.
